The aims of intended research on the Lake Taupo geothermal system:
- Geochemically 'fingerprint' vent fluids emanating from any submarine vents
- Compare these data with those from other meteoric water-dominated geothermal systems of the Taupo Volcanic Zone
- Compare the Taupo vent fluid data with that obtained by the JAGO for submarine vents associated with seawater-dominated hydrothermal systems offshore White Island collected during the R/V Sonne 135 cruise
- Collect rock and sediment samples for geochemical analysis
- Document volcanological features of the eruption vent on camera
- Construct a model for submarine hydrothermal systems in New Zealand using the Lake Taupo geothermal system as one end-member and the White Island vents as another.
