why we need minerals
We depend on the products of mining - everything we use is either mined or grown.

Minerals mined in New Zealand are found in the food we eat, the water we drink, and throughout our home and work environments - paper, carpet, and toothbrushes all contain minerals.

The minerals industry exists because it produces raw materials that are in demand:

  • precious and non-precious metals (gold, silver, and ironsand).
  • rock for road making, building, and construction.
  • non-metallic minerals for industry and agriculture.
  • coal as an energy source.

Everything we use is either mined or grown.
