Introduction

This Code is the outcome of an industry-wide initiative of the Minerals Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC). Members of MIAC are drawn from the CEOs of member companies of New Zealand Minerals Industry Association, Aggregate and Quarry Association, and New Zealand Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union Inc. The Code is supported by these organisations.
We advocate for the use of healthy and safe modern exploration, mining and quarrying practices to meet the environmental expectations of the community as well as any regional and territorial authority rules.

Environmental Code

We are committed to the following:

(a) Using best endeavours to comply with all relevant statutes and regulations and resource and other consents that govern the activities of the member

(b) Putting in place and maintaining appropriate environmental policies, systems, plans and practices that will enable the member to meet its legal obligations

(c) Continual and ongoing improvement in their environmental performance

(d) Engaging with stakeholders and working with their local communities

(e) Auditing, as appropriate, their environmental performance against their legal requirements and their environmental policies

It is expected that members will document their policies and will, if requested, make those available to the public.
